Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy
- Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined
- Divide the batter evenly between the two cake pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean
- Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely before frosting
- To make the frosting, beat softened butter in a medium bowl. Gradually add powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk, beating until smooth and creamy
- Once the cakes are completely cool, frost the top of one cake layer, then add the second layer and frost the entire cake
